southwest credit card 50000The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the best perks available to get free flights.  Other airlines might give you two or three flights for the same amount of points, but Southwest leaves other airlines in the dust with this unmatched bonus.

If you thought the Southwest Companion Pass Strategy we've mentioned in the past was over in 2011, think again!  We just heard word that you can still use bonus miles towards a Southwest Companion pass.  As a review, here's why i've had my eye on this fantastic perk for a while:

  • Earning the Southwest Companion Pass means you can take someone with you for free for the remainder of the year PLUS the entire follwing year.
  • It takes 110,000 Rapid Rewards Miles to earn the Southwest Companion Pass, but the fantastic news is that you can use credit card bonus miles to qualify
  • Purchases made with your Southwest Credit Card also count towards earning the companion pass, so find something big to charge on that card like tuition, or business expense and you'll get there a lot faster.
  • Apply for both the business card and the personal card and you'll have 100,000 of your 110,000 points needed!
  • Right now it has been confirmed that the bonuses and purchases are counting towards the Companion Pass, but there's no guarantee that this will continue much longer.

There was also a lot of buzz about the 50,000 mile bonuses not being available this year, and while we aren't able to offer you the 50,000 mile bonus through our partnership with Chase, you can use the links below to get the offers in 2012!
